About The Daughter of the Regiment
A comic opera by Gaetano Donizetti that follows Marie, a spirited young woman who was found as an orphaned baby and lovingly raised by an army regiment as their adopted daughter. She falls in love with Tonio, a local young man, but their happiness is threatened when Marie is claimed by an aristocratic relative who insists she leave her military family behind, learn the manners of high society, and marry a nobleman instead. As hidden truths about Marie's birth come to light, she must choose between social expectations and the people she loves.

This opera will be performed in French, but English subtitles will be projected during the performance.

About Utah Valley Operafest

Featuring an outstanding cast led by Grammy Award Winning tenor, Thomas Glenn as Tonio, Miriam Costa-Jackson as Marie, Christopher Holmes as Sulpice, and Demaree Brown as the Marquise of Berkenfeld, the production also showcases a lively ensemble of reform school boys—Jamen Zohner, Henry Curtis, Spencer Fidler, and Jude Swan. Adding even more excitement, the chorus is made up of talented young singers who are winners of Utah Valley Operafest's Future of Opera Vocal Competition, highlighting the next generation of rising operatic stars.
