DIGITAL PRESERVATION RESOURCES

Digital preservation stations may be reserved online, and are available for free on a first-come, first-served basis. 

You can check current availability and reserve the transfer stations online (select Media Stations in the drop-down), or by calling 801-852-7681.

Create digital files from audio stored on LPs or cassette tapes

  • The new .wav files created from your LPs or cassettes can be emailed, saved to a USB drive or portable hard drive, or burned onto a writeable CD. (Be sure to bring your own storage device.)
  • LPs must be 33 RPM or 45 RPM.
  • The LP transfer station does not accommodate 78 RPM records.

VIDEO TRANSFER

Digitize and preserve your family VHS videos

  • Files are automatically saved as .mpg files.
  • You can email these files, save them to a thumb drive or portable hard drive, burn them to a writeable DVD, or upload them to a video sharing site like YouTube.
  • These files can be fairly large. Be sure to bring adequate storage for your created files.
  • Files larger than 2GB are automatically split into multiple files.

PHOTO SCANNER

Digitize your memorable photos and documents

  • You can scan photos, documents, negatives, 35mm film, and 120 mm film.
  • Be sure to bring your own storage device to save your scanned files.
  • Scanner bed accomodates documents up to 8.5x11 in size.
