LIBRARY CHALLENGES

Throughout the year we offer reading programs and library challenges for all ages. These challenges can incentivize your reading, help you explore the library, and encourage engagement with our community.

SEASONAL READING PROGRAMS AND LIBRARY CHALLENGES

During the summer (June and July) and winter (December and January), we offer prizes and rewards for reading and completing a number of badges that encourage learning, exploration, and social engagement.

A Year of Reading

Annual challenge for adults and teens beginning January 1, 2025. Read one book from each of our 12 categories and log your reading throughout the year. Complete all twelve to earn a free book voucher, a waterbottle sticker, and one drawing entry for a $100 Amazon gift card!

Academy 25th Anniversary Challenge

Celebrate 25 years in our historic building by taking part in a library challenge! Learn, read, attend, discover, give back, and give thanks. Complete the challenge by earning all six badges and honor the past while building our next chapter together.

500 Books Before Middle School

For kids ages 6-12 who have not started middle school, enjoy this multi-year, self-paced program! Track your progress on Beanstack and check in every 50 books for a prize. Let yourself enjoy reading while earning prizes!

1000 Books Before Kindergarten

For children under 5 years old; track your progress in Beanstack and check in every 100 books for a sticker and a prize. Reading every day before kindergarten creates a great habit for years to come!

The Great Genre Challenge for Kids

Expand your reading comfort zone and join The Great Genre for Kids! Read and explore books from 11 different genres by the end of the year to earn a prize! For kids ages 0-12.

Join us June 1st for our Summer Reading Program kickoff and Bird Show in the Library Ballroom! Discover more about the fascinating world of birds - our modern dinosaurs - with Nicholas from Long Wing Inc. Sessions are available at 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm. Sign up today to secure your seat!

Program Details

  • Sign up online beginning June 1, 2026.
    • If you previously enrolled in one of our reading challenges on Beanstack, you will log in using the same account information.
    • Forgot your password? Click "I forgot my password" to reset it.
    • Forgot your username? Contact a Provo City Librarian for assistance. Once logged in, you can easily update your account details.
  • Any Provo City Library cardholder or registered Orem Library cardholder in good standing is eligible to participate.
  • Log reading minutes from any reading format including books, graphic novels, audiobooks, or reading aloud with your family.
  • To complete the program and earn a prize, mintues must be read between June 1st and July 31st.
    • Children (ages 0-3): Read and log 300 minutes.
    • Children (ages 4-12): Read and log 600 minutes.
    • Teens and Adults (ages 12+): Read and log 1200 minutes.

Unlock Badges to Earn Small Prizes!

  • Activity badges are unlocked by completing creativity, community, friends and family, library, reading, story trails, and America 250 challenges!
    • Complete any two activities from the options listed under a badge to earn a small prize!

Register your whole family for our Winter Reading Challenge!  Program dates are December 1st through January 31st.

Program Details

  • Sign up at the library or online beginning December 1st, 2025.
    • If you previously enrolled in one of our reading challenges on Beanstack, you will log in using the same account information.
    • If you do not remember your account information, select "I forgot my password" to reset your account.  You will be given the option to make account changes and adjustments for the Winter Reading Challenge.
  • Any Provo City Library cardholder in good standing is eligible to participate.
  • Log reading minutes from any reading format, from books to audiobooks, or reading aloud with your family.
  • To complete the program and earn a prize, minutes must be read between December 1st, 2025 and January 31st, 2026.
    • Children (ages 0-12): Read and log 200 minutes.
    • Teens and Adults (ages 13+): Read and log 600 minutes.

Unlock Badges to Earn Small Prizes!

  • Activity badges are unlocked by completing library, service, family, community, and sustainability challenges!  
    • Complete any two activities from the options listed under a badge to earn a small prize!
