Upcycling with Grocery Bags

Have you ever wanted to try upcycling the plastic bags sitting around your home? Now's your chance! Bring all your grocery bags and learn how to repurpose them as crafts.

WHAT WE WILL BE DOING

I'll show you how to make 1-ply and 2-ply plarn (plastic yarn) and then we will pick our projects.
It's a kind of choose-your-own-adventure situation.

CRAFT OPTIONS

• Crochet projects! I will have patterns for handbags, grocery bags, etc. that use 2-ply plarn
  Please note that crochet lessons are not included in this class.
  These patterns are for those who are already familiar with crocheting techniques.
• Plastic wreath. We'll use strips of plastic bags and a wire hanger. 
  Does not require crochet knowledge.
• Jump Rope
   This is for the kids! They will need to be able to use scissors and do a simple braid.
• Pom-poms
  This is also for the kids! It will require winding 1-ply plastic plarn around a cardboard pom-pom maker and then cutting the plarn with scissors.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING

• PLASTIC GROCERY BAGS! 
  This is super important! I am counting on you to bring the main supply! The purpose of these crafts is to reuse and give plastic bags a new, extended life, so bring all you have. I have collected some, but we will need your contributions to have plenty. Bags leftover after the program will be recycled.
• Crochet Hooks
  If you want to crochet, please bring your crochet hooks. The patterns I have selected require sizes ranging from 5mm - 9 mm.
  The majority of plarn crochet projects use 9 mm hook (N).
  The library has a few 9 mm (N) hooks but not many, so if you have them, bring them!
• Bendable Wire Hangers 
  We have about 15 wire hangers to use for the wreath craft, which I hope will be sufficient. BUT! If everyone wants to make a wreath, we won't have enough. So, if you have some at home that you are willing to part with, please bring them! (You can also bring a wire wreath form if you have one laying around, but this is not necessary.)
